The Department of Education and Skills has introduced a new Language Curriculum for children in junior and senior infants and in first and second class. The curriculum for junior and senior infants is aligned with the principles and methodologies of Aistear: the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework. The Department through the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) has created an information leaflet for parents on the new Primary Language Curriculum and is available to download here:

New Primary Language Curriculum for English and Irish – Leaflet for Parents

This gives details on some key questions you may have about the curriculum.

As part of the Department’s strategy to improve children’s literacy and numeracy skills, the National Adult Literacy Agency has also developed a website which provides some suggestions for enjoyable activities in which you and your child can engage developing literacy and numeracy skills in the process.
