We played in the final of our Cumann na mBunscol competition today against Tullamore Educate Together. We had played them earlier in the season and they were a very strong team so we knew it would be a tough match.
Miss Keenan had been working with us in the lead up to the final, taking us for training and working on our football skills. Our sixth class were also preparing for Confirmation and second class were getting ready for First Communion, so it was a very busy few weeks.
Our match was at 11.30 am so we left the school at 10.30 am. Because it was a final, everybody in the school went along so we had great support on the day. All the boys and girls had flags and wore headbands and you could hear them all over O’Connor Park as they cheered on the team.
The match was just as tough as expected and Tullamore Educate proved too strong for us on the day, but our team never gave up and fought hard right to the final whistle.
We are very proud of our team and they deserved the big cheer they got when they ran over to the supporters to thank them, not just from the other children from the school, but from all the parents and grandparents who turned up to support and encourage the players.
A big thank you to Miss Keenan who worked so hard to get us to the final. We are already looking forward to next year.
